Father-of-two Matt Astrauskas, 27, has undergone surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital following the alleged crash at Parafield Gardens about 11pm on Saturday.
His partner, Sasha Walker, told 9News they were celebrating his birthday in the front yard when the out-of-control Subaru came hurtling up Ryans Road.
“He could have died, he’s lucky,” she said.
“He has a shattered cheekbone, broken arm, broken fingers, a dislocated hip.”
Police allege the driver of the Subaru fled the scene, but they believe they know who they are looking for.
“I’ve got a very good description of the car, license plate and passenger which have been handed to police,” Ms Walker said.
Residents on the road have said drivers often speed along the stretch, insisting speed bumps and more signage needs to be installed to stop them.
“Families walk down here, people walk their dogs – it’s not a speedway.”
