Jasper Uche, the candidate for deputy governorship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, has been attacked by suspected thugs.
At the time of the press, not much was known about the attack.
It was learnt, however, that Uche was attacked at the headquarters of Umunneochi Local Government, where he had gone to meet with party stakeholders.
According to information obtained by newsman, animosity within the party was stoked when the state leadership of the party decided to replace the running mate of its gubernatorial candidate, the late Prof. Uche Ikonne, Okey Igwe, with the new running mate, Uche, after Ikonne’s death.

Uche and Igwe are both from Umunneochi Local Government. This suggests that the party in the council might not be able to work together before the general election.
The attack at Umunneochi was confirmed by a source who asked not to be named.
The source said, however, that the attack was on supporters of the candidate for deputy governor and that the candidate himself was not at the site when the attack happened.
The source said that the matter had been brought to the attention of the state chapter of the PDP, which promised to look into it and take action if the thugs were linked to any party leader.
