The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that Adetokunbo Abiru, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, won the Lagos East Senatorial District election on Saturday.
On Monday in Lagos, Abiru was named the election winner by Simeon Adebayo Oladipo, who was in charge of the senatorial election.
After the polls closed in the East Senatorial District, results were announced at the INEC Collation Centre in Somolu at approximately 12:48 pm, with the returning officer, Oladipo, asserting that Abiru had received 178,646 votes.
Professor Oladipo used this number to say that Abiru beat Akobada Nicholas Adekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 80,249 votes.
The local governments of Somolu, Kosofe, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, and Ikorodu are all in the East Senatorial District of Lagos.
Oladipo says that nine parties were running for the East Senatorial election seat.
According to the returning officer, the election was close, and the following tally was recorded for each candidate.

Other candidates include Ediale Christopher, who got 508 votes for the NRM; Oluwaranmilowo Mayowa, who got 6,009 votes for the SDP; and Obadiaru Charles Imuenoghonwen, who got 4,345 votes for the YPP.
Oladipo said, “I, Prof. Simeon Adebayo Oladipo, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the Lagos East Senatorial election, Somolu, held on February 25, 2023, that the election was contested.”
“Abiru, having scored the highest votes at the election, has won the Lagos East Senatorial seat.
“I, hereby, declared Abiru Mikhail Adetokunbo winner and returned elected on February 27, 2023.
“Abiru Mikhail Adetokunbo of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, has scored the highest number of votes, he is hereby declared the winner and returned elected on February 27, 2023,” Oladipo said.
