Patience Ozokor, better known as Mama G, is a veteran actress in Nollywood. She has told her fellow actresses that they do not need to move to Abuja or Lagos to become famous in the movie industry.

Ozokwor said this on Tuesday night in Enugu during a candle procession to honour the late Madam Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, the CEO and founder of the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

She said that many actors and actresses began their careers in Enugu, but when they became famous, they moved to Abuja or Lagos and forgot where they came from.

“But for me, I said I am going to stay in Enugu, inside the village, and when I go to Lagos, I tell them I am a village woman.

“I stay at Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, and God has shown me that you can become a star from anywhere.

“You don’t need to be in Lagos or Abuja,” Ozokwor said.

Ozokwor told her colleague, “If you are good enough, they will even call you from America if they think you are good enough.”

She also said she had won the Member Federal Republic Centenary Award, which is only given out once every 100 years.

“I did not even know who put my name there so that you can be picked from anywhere.

“That is the statement I wanted to make in this industry but I am happy that I am saying it today,” she said.
