LAKE MARY, Fla. – School begins on Aug. 11 in Seminole County. Before the academic year kicks off, Superintendent Serita D. Beamon will provide an update on the public school district’s status and future prospects on Monday.

The State of Our Schools event is scheduled for noon during a luncheon with business and community leaders in Lake Mary.

Once more, Seminole County was rated as an “A” school district in the previous school year. According to a news release, SCPS was ranked No. 1 among Central Florida districts and 10th out of Florida’s 67 districts overall.

Not a single public school scored a “D” or an “F” grade, and hasn’t since 2019, according to a summary of the district’s school grades.

Last year, voters in Seminole County approved a one-cent infrastructure sales tax, with a portion allocated for school renovations, construction, and upgrades.

Still, declining enrollment is hitting Seminole County, as it is other districts in Central Florida. That, plus a change in the state’s reimbursement formula, is causing budget troubles.

News 6 will stream the address by Superintendent Beamon live.
