Elon Dershowitz, a noted Hollywood film and podcast producer and son of the famous lawyer Alan Dershowitz, has passed away at 64 due to a stroke, as confirmed by his family.

His father, Alan Dershowitz, is a highly esteemed attorney in the United States, known for defending notable figures like O.J. Simpson, Jeffrey Epstein, and President Donald Trump during his initial impeachment trial in January 2020.

Elon passed away on August 17.

Despite facing major health issues early in life, Elon co-created the Oscar-winning film “Reversal of Fortune” as well as his father’s podcast, “The Dershow,” and enjoyed a long-standing career in the film, television, and digital media industries.

Alan Dershowitz shared with JNS that his son was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 10 and doctors at the time cautioned that he might not live to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah at 13.

“He’s had 52 years since that time, and he’s lived a full life and made these great movies,” his father remarked. “He struggled due to his condition, which impaired his ability to read or see, but he compensated with tremendous effort.”

Elon’s mother, Sue Barlach, died in 1983.

The pivotal moment in Elon’s career was the release of “Reversal of Fortune” in 1990, featuring Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close, which dramatized the Claus von Bülow case. Irons won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance.

Elon went on to produce a wide-ranging slate of films including Oliver Stone’s Wall Street, Talk Radio, Denzel Washington’s thriller Fallen, Dream Lover, The Advocate’s Devil, Martians Go Home, and The Whole Truth.

He later turned to television, co-producing ESPN documentaries such as Break Up the Bombers, Whose Curse is Worse, and Pete Rose on Trial.

At the time of his death, Elon was producing The Dershow podcast with his father – blending Alan Dershowitz’s legal commentary with his son’s media expertise.

Born in Boston, Elon had been drawn to performance from an early age.

Known as ‘Elon the Pretty Good,’ he entertained audiences as a teenage magician, performing for the Boston Celtics, for Senator Ted Kennedy’s staff, and in nightly sets at Legal Sea Foods.

He went on to study at Hampshire College and worked in the audiovisual department at Harvard Business School before moving to Hollywood to pursue producing.

Away from the screen, Elon was known for his passions: food, cinema, basketball, and art.

He was a dedicated NBA and WNBA fan, a stand-up comedy enthusiast who occasionally performed himself, and a collector of works ranging from Edvard Munch lithographs to vintage magic posters.

He is survived by his father Alan and stepmother Carolyn; his brother Jamin, sister Ella, and their families.

Known as ‘Uncle E,’ he was a beloved figure to his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday in New York City.
