Legendary musician Neil Young has made the difficult decision to cancel his entire UK and European tour, issuing a sincere apology to his fans. The 80-year-old rock icon, along with his band, The Chrome Hearts, had been scheduled to perform a series of concerts across major cities in Britain, including Manchester, Cardiff, and Glasgow.

The tour was set to continue through Europe, with planned performances in the Netherlands, France, and Italy. However, in an unexpected announcement, Young declared that he would be stepping back from performing and canceling the tour altogether.

In a heartfelt message posted on the Neil Young Archives website, he expressed his decision: “Folks, I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time.” He continued, “Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. I’m sorry to let you down, but this is not the time.”

But in a shock move, the artist has revealed he is cancelling the whole tour and is taking a break from performing.

In a statement shared to the Neil Young Archives website, he wrote: ‘Folks I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time.

‘I do love playing LIVE and being with you and the Chrome Hearts. LOVE Neil be well.’

Neil did not go into further detail about the reason behind cancelling the tour.

Eden Sessions, who run the outdoor gigs he was due to play, also shared their own statement on Instagram on Saturday, including Neil’s message to fans.

They wrote: ‘We’re sorry to share that Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts will no longer be touring Europe this year.

‘This means that regrettably the Eden Sessions show on Wednesday 17 June 2026 is cancelled.’

The company added: ‘Ticket purchasers will be contacted directly and will be fully refunded against the original payment card used. Those who purchased tickets directly through the Eden Sessions should allow ten working days for funds to be received, there is no need to contact us.

‘Those who purchased through the Neil Young Archive will be contacted directly by AXS regarding their refunds.’

The rocker celebrated his 80th birthday on Wednesday by taking a cruise around Oxnard, California, in his 1959 Lincoln Continental convertible, which boasts a rechargeable biodiesel-powered microturbine engine.

Despite the perfect weather, the Canadian rock legend kept the convertible’s top up for the drive.

Neil was noticeably sporting a Jimmy Kimmel Live! cap, which he likely procured during the talk show host’s three-episode suspension in September over criticism of President Donald Trump after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

In April, Neil’s third wife Daryl Hannah released her documentary, Neil Young: Coastal, which she filmed during his 2023 solo tour.

‘His sense of humor takes me by surprise all the time; his observations, his timing and the rye nature of it,’ the 64-year-old Blade Runner alum told Forbes at the time.

‘But I was surprised that he was nervous, I was surprised that he was so nervous before the first show. And of course, I’m always taken by surprise by what song he’s going to play because you never know.’

Daryl earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2023 for her musical contributions to her 2022 documentary BARN (A Band, a Brotherhood, a Barn) about the Big Change rocker and his backing band Crazy Horse.

On August 25, the inseparable couple celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary.

Neil was still married to his second wife — The Bridge School co-founder Pegi Morton — in April 2014 when he and Hannah first led a Washington, DC, march protesting the Keystone Pipeline.

Three months later, the Let’s Roll Again rocker filed for divorce from Pegi after 36 years of marriage, which was finalised in 2016 – three years before she died from ovarian cancer.

Pegi is the mother of Neil’s 41-year-old daughter Amber and 47-year-old son Ben, who has cerebral palsy.

The Farm Aid co-founder also fathered 53-year-old son Zeke, who also coincidentally has cerebral palsy, during his five-year relationship with the late Carrie Snodgress, which ended in 1975.

Neil divorced his first ex-wife Susan Acevedo in 1970 after less than two years of marriage.
