When Kenedi Anderson first auditioned for American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, they were blown away by her talent. But despite the fact that Bryan once suggested that she might be “the biggest star we’ve ever seen,” the show has confirmed that Anderson has withdrawn from the competition.
Anderson, an 18-year-old Virginia native, was one of just three contestants this season to earn a “Platinum Ticket” on the show, a Disney Fastpass of sorts (this season was filmed at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii after all), which allowed her to skip the line and bypass the rigors of Hollywood Week.
After Anderson’s performance on last night’s episode, Idol host Ryan Seacrest made the surprising announcement that the young singer decided to excuse herself from the show, and fans would no longer be able to vote for her. “You might have noticed that there was no voting information during Kenedi’s performance just now,” Seacrest said. “Since we taped these shows in Hawaii earlier, Kenedi has decided to withdraw from our show for personal reasons. We send her well wishes.”
Anderson wrote her own statement on Instagram after the episode, saying, “For personal reasons, I am unable to continue on on American Idol. This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know it’s necessary.” She did not disclose the specific reasons for her departure.
For those of you who want to continue following Anderson’s journey, you can find her on TikTok where she has amassed over 100k followers.
