A tragic hit-and-run incident on January 10 claimed the life of a 72-year-old man on Vernon Road. Authorities believe the driver of a Dodge sedan is responsible, with surveillance footage capturing the car near the crime scene.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a bid to solve this fatal hit-and-run case from early January, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is turning to surveillance video they hope will lead them to the suspect’s vehicle and its driver.

The footage, released on Saturday, reveals a dark-colored sedan in the vicinity of the incident in Magnolia Gardens on January 10. This vehicle is thought to be a Dodge, according to previous descriptions.

That day, officers responded to Vernon Road in reference to a crash just before 6 p.m. JSO said the 72-year-old victim was found in the roadway after being hit by an unknown vehicle, and the driver reportedly left the scene without rendering aid, calling for help or notifying police.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where officials said he later died.

Authorities are asking anyone with more information on the crash, the Dodge or the driver to contact JSO at 630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTIps@jaxsheriff.org. Anonymous tips can be made by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-8477.
