Ashley Biden suggested she is prepared for ‘new beginnings’ and believes things are looking up after revealing her husband’s supposed infidelity and initiating divorce proceedings.

The former First Daughter, 44, filed for divorce from her plastic surgeon husband, Howard Krein, 59, after 13 years of marriage last month.

She appeared to disclose the affair in a cutting Instagram post featuring a grainy, distant nighttime photo of a casually dressed dark-haired man holding hands with a blonde woman in a strapless black dress.

The caption was straightforward: ‘My husband and his girlfriend holding hands.’ A heart emoji and a clip from The Notorious B.I.G.’s song Another accompanied the post.

Less than a month later, Ashley posted an August recap proclaiming she is ready for new beginnings.

‘August 2025. The Summer of 2025 was one of the toughest summers of my life. I have been preparing for the fall (my fav season) and now ready for the RISE,’ she added.

‘Grateful for the support of friends and family. Grateful that I took the time/space to grieve, process, and heal. 

‘Grateful for peace of mind, new beginnings, new seasons, and a rediscovered strength and love for myself.’ 

The Instagram post included 12 photos that showed how she spent the end of her summer. 

She shared smiling selfies and photos with her prominent family, including outings with her mother, Jill Biden, and beach moments with her father, Joe Biden.

Legal filings obtained by Daily Mail revealed Ashley is requesting spousal support from her estranged husband.

She is ‘unable to sustain herself’ while their case is pending, the filing reads.

The couple lived together in Philadelphia, where Krein works as an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. 

Ashley seemed to refer to her divorce in another now-deleted Instagram story showing her walking in a park and giving a thumbs up to Beyoncé’s song Freedom.

She also reposted a quote to Instagram that read: ‘New life, means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.’ She accompanied the quote with Lauryn Hill’s song Freedom Time.  

Divorce documents filed by her attorney Charles Meyer reveal she is requesting a no-fault divorce, stating that the marriage is ‘irretrievably broken’ and that she plans to submit an affidavit consenting to a divorce – and believes Krein may do the same.

She asked that after 90 days, the court issue a decree of divorce if both she and her husband file their affidavits consenting to the formal dissolution of their marriage.

The filings note that she and Krein are living ‘separate and apart’ and that she will file the required affidavit at an ‘appropriate time’.

Ashley also asked the court to order Krein to pay her spousal support while their divorce goes through, as well as keeping her as a beneficiary on his life and health insurance policies.

Ashley, the only biological child of Joe and Jill Biden – who Forbes estimated to be worth around $10million – says she ‘lacks sufficient property to provide for her reasonable needs and is unable to sustain herself through appropriate employment in accordance with the standard of living established during the marriage.’

Ashley married Krein in Greenville, Delaware, in 2012. The ceremony took place at the church where Ashley was baptized, People magazine reported at the time.

The former couple met two years earlier through Biden’s late brother Beau, who died from cancer in 2015.

The last time she Ashley and Krein were publicly seen together was in the Oval Office in June 2024 when Joe spoke to the nation to announce that he was pulling out of the presidential race following a disastrous televised debate against Donald Trump.

While she has mostly stayed out of the spotlight, earlier this year Ashley vocally defended Joe Biden against claims that he had been cognitively unfit during his last months in the White House.

In June, she shared a beach photo of herself with her parents and wrote: ‘I am so grateful. Too grateful to be angry about all this bulls***.’
