Activists on board a Gaza-bound flotilla carrying Greta Thunberg and other pro-Palestinian activists have claimed it has been the target of another drone attack.

In dramatic footage shared online, a loud-pitched sound can be heard before an object appears to land on the boat and burst into flames.

A member of the crew on the British-flagged boat can also be seen pointing to the sky and diving for cover moments before the suspected strike.

It is understood that the fire has now been extinguished and that no one on board the boat was injured.

The flotilla, which is aiming to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, arrived in Tunisia at the weekend and has been anchored off the coast of the north African country.

‘Another boat has been hit,’ the Global Sumud Flotilla – the group behind the mission – posted on social media in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The alleged attack comes just one day after flotilla organisers said one of their boats was hit by a similar suspected UAV in the area.

Some members of the crew said they saw the drone, adding that the boat’s bow caught fire immediately after.

The Global Sumud Flotilla said in a statement: ‘The Global Sumud Flotilla confirms that one of the main boats, known as the “Family Boat” – that was carrying GSF Steering Committee members – was struck by what is suspected to be a drone.

‘The boat was under the Portuguese flag and all passengers and crew are safe.

‘An investigation is currently underway and when more information is available it will be released immediately.

‘Acts of aggression aimed at intimidating and derailing our mission will not deter us. Our peaceful mission to break the siege on Gaza and stand in solidarity with its people continues with determination and resolve.’

However, Tunisian authorities denied the claims, saying ‘no drones’ had been detected.

Tunisian national guard spokesman Houcem Eddine said: ‘According to preliminary findings, a fire broke out in the life jackets on board.’

The United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, who was at the port, said: ‘We do not know who carried out the attack, but we would not be surprised if it was Israel.

‘If confirmed, it is an attack against Tunisian sovereignty.’

The flotilla was due to resume its voyage on Wednesday after being delayed multiple times by weather conditions and other issues.

Among its high-profile participants is environmental activist Ms Thunberg, who addressed pro-Palestinian campaigners in Tunisia on Sunday.

She said: ‘We all know why we are here. Just across the water there’s a genocide going on, a mass starvation by Israel’s murder machine.’

The latest mission comes after Greta was deported by Israel in June when the ship she was traveling on with 11 other people, the Madleen, was stopped by the military.

At the time, Israel was accused of using drones to spray an irritant substance on Greta’s flotilla before boarding and detaining her and other activists.

Images showed the deck splattered with an unidentified white liquid.

Activist Yasemin Acar, among the 12 on board, said it had been deployed by Israel and was affecting her eyes.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is carrying food, water and medicine and is aiming to reach Gaza.

Activists on board demanded safe passage to deliver the much-needed aid and the opening of a humanitarian sea corridor, according to a statement.
