‘Very limited options’ for Americans to evacuate

The U.S. Ambassador to Israel has issued a warning about the limited evacuation options available for Americans currently in the country.

Mike Huckabee has advised American citizens to consider taking a tourist shuttle bus to Taba, Egypt, or to continue on to Cairo, where they can arrange flights back to the United States.

He specifically cautioned against attempting to leave via Jordan.

In a written statement, Huckabee explained, “All our embassy staff are currently sheltering in place. However, I understand the urgency for many of you to return home to avoid ongoing hotel expenses. Here are our current recommendations.”

He added, “There’s uncertainty about when Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv will reopen. Once it does, expect very limited flights, with priority given to those already holding tickets with El Al.”

“It’s unlikely that other airlines will resume flights in or out of the area anytime soon,” Huckabee concluded.

‘The Ministry of Tourism is operating buses to Taba.

‘That crossing is further away but it’s open 24/7.

‘There are some flights from Taba, but there are also options to get to Cairo and it’s operating normally except to Middle Eastern countries.

‘To get out, it’s the best option for now.

‘If not already enrolled in STEP program, do so as you will be emailed updated information from the embassy and State Department.’
