Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen has been slammed by critics who call him a hypocrite after he was dragged out of Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s Senate hearing.
The Health and Human Services Secretary had been reading prepared remarks about his department’s 2026 budget on Wednesday when activists interrupted the session, causing him to jump out of his seat.
Cohen was among those forcibly removed from the hearing for protesting the US’s support for Israel.
‘Congress sent the bombs that kill children in Gaza and pays it with cuts to Medicaid,’ he shouted.
Critics called out the ice cream tycoon for protesting during RFK’s hearing, noting the irony of the millionaire standing against a man who promotes healthy food.
‘So let me get this straight??? The guy who sells an 1100 calorie pint of ice cream that cost like $7 is mad at the guy trying to make our food healthy… Got it. Just checking,’ one person said.
‘Really upset about a guy wanting kids to eat health food,’ added another. ‘That’s exactly why he’s mad. They are messing with his livelihood,’ said a third person.
‘Lmfao. Are we really having junk food protesters in Congress? “Give me ice cream or give me death!”‘ a fourth person said.
Others had some fun with ice cream puns while pointing out the hypocrisy in Cohen’s politics.
‘You’d think a guy that just sells ice cream would be a Lil more chill,’ one person said. ‘He’s taking “I-scream you-scream” way too literally,’ a second said.
‘Just another screaming mad multi-gazillionaire,’ a third person said. ‘The same buffoon who sold his business for $300+ million but despises capitalism,’ another added.
‘Looks like we need to stop eating whatever ice cream he makes. Clearly he doesn’t care about his customers, so he certainly doesn’t care about producing a healthy product,’ said a fifth person.
As the Health and Human Services Secretary began to answer a question, the Senate floor erupted in chaos, and Cohen could be heard screaming.
Other protestors could be heard screaming that RFK killed people and holding up signs that Capitol Police quickly ripped away.
One of the signs read, ‘RFK kills people with AIDS worldwide. RFK lies, people with AIDS Die.’
The signs were about comments RFK made questioning the medically proven fact that HIV causes AIDS.
Police arrested several other protestors during the hearing and aggressively escorted them out.
During the commotion, Senator Bill Cassidy, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, paused the hearing and continued to encourage police to remove the protestors.
‘Hands off Medicaid! Congress kills,’ Cohen said as he was escorted out of the room.
Video footage posted on social media from outside the hearing room revealed Cohen handcuffed as police escorted him down a hallway.
One individual recording the interaction asked Cohen why he was getting arrested, and he responded, ‘Congress kills poor kids in Gaza by buying bombs and pays for it by… kicking poor kids off Medicaid in the US.’
He then called on Congress to ‘let food into Gaza’ and ‘let food to starving kids!’
Cohen then shared a clip of the shocking interaction on his official X account and doubled down on his claims.
‘I told Congress they’re killing poor kids in Gaza by buying bombs, and they’re paying for it by kicking poor kids off Medicaid in the US,’ he wrote.
‘This was the authorities’ response,’ he added, referring to the video.
