Angus Taylor
Angus Taylor has emerged victorious as the new Liberal leader after snatching the job from Sussan Ley in a decisive partyroom vote – but his name may not be so familiar with many Australian voters who watched the spill unfold.
The dust from the opposition’s crushing 2025 federal election defeat is still settling as Taylor becomes the third leader of the party – following Peter Dutton and Ley – in the past nine months.

The newly appointed opposition leader, representing Hume, steps into the political arena with an impressive background and solid backing from the shadow cabinet as he occupies Ley’s recently vacated office in Canberra.

In his previous role as energy minister, he inadvertently drew attention to himself by praising his own Facebook post, which celebrated the addition of 1,000 new parking spaces in his district.

“Fantastic. Great move. Well done Angus,” read the self-congratulatory comment he mistakenly posted using his Angus Taylor MP account.

Now, this seven-year-old blunder has resurfaced to challenge Taylor in the wake of the leadership change.

His recent updates on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X have been inundated with similar remarks from users.
