A woman who vanished in May was reportedly found buried on her husband’s property in Mississippi on Monday.
Sheriff Ryan Everett of Lawrence County revealed that Charles Sims guided authorities to where La’Datra Williams was buried in a shallow grave. Sims, who was apprehended on July 11, had initially informed the police it would be impossible for them to find Williams’ body before taking them to its location in a forested area, as reported by Darkhorse Press.
The 26-year-old Williams, hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, disappeared on May 20 while she was in Silver Creek, Mississippi, visiting Sims. Williams’ father informed the Kansas City Star that Sims was 49 when he began a relationship with Williams, who was 18 at the time. The couple had four children together.
Williams allegedly informed her father of her plans to go to Mississippi to end her relationship with Sims. When she became unresponsive to calls and texts, her father contacted the authorities to perform a welfare check at Sims’ residence.
Williams’ father told the Kansas City Star that he then called Sims — who admitted to assaulting his daughter. However, Sims allegedly claimed he dropped off Williams down the road after the altercation.
Family members told Darkhorse Press that Sims’ living arrangement resembled that of a cult, as Williams and his two other wives traveled between Missouri and Mississippi. Williams’ aunt said she believed Williams was in Mississippi when one of the other women informed Sims that Williams had another love interest.
“Charles believes no matter what the situation is he is the answer. That God ordained him to fix all issues and all women,” the aunt said.
She also alleged that one of Sims’ other wives escaped with her children at some point and Sims made them return. The aunt said she believed Williams was forced to leave her children with one of the women, who Williams did not trust or like.
“I believe that in a fit of jealous rage, he killed my daughter,” Williams’ father told the Kansas City Star.
Williams family alleged Sims has 25 children, including the four he shares with Williams.
A DNA test to confirm whether the body is Williams is pending. It is unclear what criminal charges Sims is facing.
