Anthony Albanese has tied the knot with his fiancée Jodie Haydon at the prime minister’s official Canberra residence The Lodge.
The small private ceremony with family and close friends on Saturday afternoon was kept under wraps until after it had concluded.
“We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends,” the couple said in a statement.
The much-anticipated event marks the first time a prime minister has married while in office — the date and location a mystery until now.

In a heartwarming ceremony, Haydon’s five-year-old niece, Ella, took on the cherished role of flower girl, while Albanese’s beloved dog, Toto, proudly served as the ring bearer.

The couple were married by a celebrant from the NSW Central Coast — where Haydon grew up — and they wrote their own vows.

Haydon made her way down the aisle, accompanied by her parents Bill and Pauline Haydon. The touching moment was set to the melodic tune of Ben Folds’ “The Luckiest.”

The couple exchanged vows they had personally written, with a celebrant officiating the union. The ceremony concluded with the newlyweds joyfully exiting to Stevie Wonder’s classic, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).”

For the special occasion, Haydon chose a stunning dress crafted by the Sydney designer Romance Was Born, while Albanese donned an elegant suit from MJ Bale.

Ella and Toto, the charming duo of flower girl and ring bearer, added a delightful touch to the memorable day.

The witnesses were Haydon’s brother Patrick Haydon and Albanese’s cousin Helen Golden.

Guests were served beer in a special can — adorned with the newlyweds — made by Willie the Boatman whose brewery is in Sydney’s Inner West.
Their first dance was to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra.

The wedding rings were from Cerrone Jewellers in Leichhardt, Sydney.

The couple will go on a honeymoon in Australia from Monday until Friday of next week.

While the ceremony was at the prime minister’s taxpayer-funded residence, it was paid for privately by Albanese and Haydon.

Albanese proposed to Haydon at The Lodge on Valentine’s Day in 2024 with a ring he designed himself.

Couple met at business event in 2020

The pair first met in March 2020 at a business dinner function in Melbourne, at which Albanese asked if there were any fans of the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team in the room and Haydon yelled “up the Rabbitohs”.

They later met for a drink at the Young Henry’s brewery in Newtown, in Sydney’s inner west.

Haydon grew up on the NSW Central Coast and has had a long career in the superannuation industry.
The marriage is Haydon’s first and Albanese’s second, after he separated from his first wife Carmel Tebbutt in 2019.
Opposition leader Sussan Ley congratulated the newlyweds.
“Congratulations to Anthony and Jodie! I wish them every happiness as they continue building their lives together,” she said.
