A night meant for celebration turned tragic at a Pennsylvania university when gunshots disrupted a homecoming event, leading to one death and several injuries, as confirmed by law enforcement.

The evening of festive reunions was abruptly interrupted at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, as reported by Fox 5. The incident occurred at Lincoln University’s International Cultural Center (ICC), where a large gathering of students and alumni was taking place.

In a press briefing, Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe, alongside Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee, disclosed that one person was killed and six others were wounded in the shooting.

Authorities also indicated that numerous individuals sustained injuries while trying to flee the chaos that ensued, as panic spread through the crowd. They described the vicinity of the ICC as a complex and extensive crime scene.

Following the incident, the university swiftly enacted a campus lockdown to ensure everyone’s safety while law enforcement secured the premises.

While some security measures have since been eased, the investigation remains active, involving the District Attorney’s Office, Lincoln University Police, and Pennsylvania State Police. Certain areas of the campus continue to be under the watchful eye of police checkpoints as the probe progresses.

No information has been released regarding a possible suspect or motive; however, federal, state and local law enforcement are conducting a rigorous investigation.

Students and staff are being asked to avoid the area around the International Cultural Center.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Chester County District Attorney’s Office or Lincoln University Police.
