Swatting involves making false emergency calls to provoke an immediate and large-scale response from authorities.

A young individual is currently facing charges, including 12 counts related to the misuse of a telecommunications network with the intent to commit a major crime by spreading false information about potential dangers. Additionally, there is one charge for unauthorized possession of a banned firearm.

According to AFP Acting Assistant Commissioner Graeme Marshall, those who commit swatting offenses are typically young males.

“These offenders, primarily males between the ages of 11 and 25, engage in activities such as swatting, doxxing, and hacking to gain status, notoriety, and recognition within their online communities,” Marshall explained.

He also noted, “[They act] under the mistaken belief they are anonymous.”

Marshall pointed out that the alleged actions of the boy have led to considerable financial damage.
