Although emergency medical aid was provided immediately, the man unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Acting Chief Superintendent Heath McQueen expressed, “This incident is truly tragic.”

“My thoughts are with the officers involved, the emergency personnel on-site, and the family of the man affected by today’s events,” he continued.

“These situations often unfold rapidly and require swift, critical decision-making,” he added.

“I’m confident that the use of force was appropriate given the circumstances, however, this will still be investigated by Ethical Standards Command with oversight from the CCC.”

One officer sustained a minor injury.

The death will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.

The incident came just hours before two similar shootings in New South Wales.
