A Brisbane man, accused of issuing a bomb threat during a flight, has received a $1700 fine after traveling under his friend’s name.

He was removed from the aircraft before authorities determined he was using a false identity.

The individual also traveled from Hobart to Sydney on that same day using the same alias.

Following a search of the aircraft, it was determined there was no threat.

The man was charged with taking a flight with a ticket under a fake name and using fake information at an airport.

He has since pleaded guilty to both offences.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) Detective Acting Inspector Trevor Robinson said travelling under false information threatened aviation security.

“To ensure the safety of all passengers and crew on aircraft, it’s critical we know who is actually onboard,” Robinson said.

“We have seen instances where people use fraudulent identities to evade law enforcement and travel interstate to facilitate criminal activity.

“The AFP will continue to work closely with airline partners to tackle any behaviour that interferes with aviation security.”
