Nearly 600 victims have reportedly been recognized in intimate videos allegedly extracted from the hard drive of a junior doctor accused of secretly recording colleagues inside staff bathrooms at prominent Melbourne hospitals.
Ryan Cho, 27, faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening after he was hit with five further charges over the alleged contents of his hard drive.
The doctor, Cho, was first charged with stalking and using an optical surveillance device on July 10, following allegations that he recorded using a phone in a restricted staff bathroom at Austin Hospital in Heidelberg on July 3.
So far, only five victims have been formally identified.
Further charges against Cho are expected once more victims are formally identified, police said.
It is claimed that Cho tampered with various toilets, stuffing them with toilet paper and damaging locks, to ensure that his victims would use cubicles where he had hidden recording devices.
Police claim they found the same mesh bags and hooks that were in the bathrooms in question when they raided Cho’s home.
A number of those hooks were also found in other areas of the hospitals, including those accessed by patients.
At this stage, there is no information to suggest members of the public were filmed.
Police are also probing additional hospitals in Melbourne and regional Victoria where Cho worked between 2020 and 2025.
They have begun contacting those workplaces, as well as staff potentially impacted during the time of Cho’s employment.
An application for bail made by Cho’s lawyers was refused.
