Good Morning Britain fans were surprised as they tuned in today to find that it was playing the Philippines v Switzerland World Cup Match instead of its regular show.

ITV Daytime’s programming has been disrupted by the women’s football tournament that kicked off on Thursday in Australia and New Zealand, as the time difference means matches are being aired in the UK overnight and into the morning.

On Monday the programme, as well as This Morning and Loose Women will all be off air due to planned football games.

But Good Morning Britain viewers were not happy with the decision today, with one blasting ITV claiming: ‘GMB removed for football is the stupidest thing I’ve seen. How to lose viewers.’

Another added: ‘Why didn’t they put the football on another ITV Channel? Good Morning Britain is part of my morning routine.’

A third said: ‘Where is Good Morning Britain? No way football at this time.’

For the next few weeks schedules will be disrupted on the channel as the matches are aired and unfortunately for GMB enthusiasts, the morning show will not return to screens until Thursday.

In some cases, shows such as Lorraine will be extended while others will be shortened or not shown at all.

The BBC’s daytime schedule remains unaffected for the next week, as they are showing overnight matches, such as Columbia vs Korea Republic, which kicks off around 8am on Tuesday morning.

The women’s football World Cup kicked off on Thursday, with the tournament being opened by a match between Norway and co-hosts New Zealand. The host nation won 1-0.

The Lionesses have also travelled to the Down Under, where they have been training on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

The women’s England squad will play their first game on Saturday against Haiti before they take on Denmark and China over the next two weeks.
