David Warner, a former Australian Test cricket star, is facing charges of drink driving in Sydney.

Authorities assert that a 39-year-old man halted his van just ahead of a random breath testing checkpoint on Malabar Road in Maroubra, located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police officers approached the vehicle and administered a breathalyzer test, which reportedly indicated the presence of alcohol.

The individual was subsequently arrested and transported to the Maroubra police station for further testing.

Warner allegedly recorded a second positive alcohol reading of 0.104.

He has been issued a Field Court Attendance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on May 7.

Warner retired from all forms of international cricket in 2024, having played 112 Test matches for Australia since his debut in 2011.

An opening batsman, Warner averaged 44.59 runs in the Test arena and scored 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries.

Warner holds the record for most international centuries as an opening batsman across all formats.

He won the Allan Border Medal for Australian Cricketer of the Year three times, and was also vice-captain of the Australian Test side.

He was suspended for a year in 2018 after his involvement in the ball tampering scandal in South Africa, and was barred from holding any leadership positions, though this was lifted in 2024.

He won the 2015 Cricket World Cup, as well as the 2021 T20 World Cup, where he was named player of the tournament.

He currently captains the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.
