India has dispatched a search and rescue squad alongside a medical unit and supplies to aid the relief efforts. Meanwhile, Malaysia’s foreign ministry reported that it will send a team of 50 personnel on Sunday to assist in the hardest-hit regions.
South Korea pledged $2 million USD (approximately $3.17 million) in humanitarian aid to Myanmar via international channels to assist with recovery. The South Korean Foreign Ministry stated it is keeping a watchful eye on developments and is ready to offer more help if required.
The United Nations allocated $US 5 million ($7.9 million) to start relief efforts.
President Donald Trump said on Friday that the US was going to help with the response, but some experts were concerned about this effort given his administration’s deep cuts in foreign assistance.
The Trump administration’s cuts to the United States Agency for International Development have already forced the United Nations and non-governmental organisation to cut many programs in Myanmar.
