In a concerted effort to bolster online safety for children, Denmark has taken a significant step by establishing age restrictions on social media platforms. This initiative aligns with a collaborative pledge by Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, the European Union, and the United Kingdom to enhance the protection of young internet users.
Denmark’s Ministry for Digital Affairs highlighted the country’s pioneering move within the EU, emphasizing that these age limits are designed to safeguard children and adolescents in the digital sphere. “We are finally drawing a line in the sand,” declared Caroline Stage, the minister for digital affairs.

While Discord remains unaffected, other platforms such as GitHub, LEGO Play, Roblox, Steam and Steam Chat, Google Classroom, WhatsApp, and YouTube Kids will also be exempt from the age-related ban. This exemption has sparked further discussions about the inclusion and exclusion of platforms, as detailed in a related report.
