- A property developer says he has signed a deal with the Trump organisation to build a tower on the Gold Coast.
- The Gold Coast City Council says that it is yet to receive a development application.
A property developer has announced a partnership with the Trump Organization to construct a towering skyscraper on the Gold Coast.
Planned to be a six-star luxury development, the skyscraper is expected to soar 340 meters into the sky, spanning 91 stories.
David Young, CEO of Altus Property Group, described the project as a potential landmark for Surfers Paradise.
“This will be a natural hub for the affluent and is slated for completion before the Olympics, offering a significant boost to tourism during the Games,” Young explained.
“The Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast, a project I’ve been working towards for nearly two decades, aims to become Australia’s tallest building by the end of this decade,” he added.
However, the ambitious proposal still has hurdles to clear, as the Gold Coast City Council has confirmed that they have yet to receive a formal development application.
Acting Gold Coast mayor Mark Hammell said in a statement that the Gold Coast welcomed investment in the city, as it displayed confidence and helped create jobs.
“A formal development application will be required, and we look forward to considering the application once it is received,” he said.
Young said the design of the tower would follow the same Trump design manual used for properties currently being built in Jeddah and Saudi Arabia.
One third of the building would function as a six-star hotel with another third to include 270 apartments.
