Early Thursday morning the constable was trying to stop an allegedly stolen car when he was run over and dragged almost 20 metres in Ascot.
A 23-year-old Belmont man police allege to have been behind the wheel has now been charged.
He has been charged with a number of offences including stealing a motor vehicle and failing to stop when directed to by a police officer.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court later today.
Two others in the car, a 20-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man have been released pending further investigation.
When the 28-year-old police officer was trapped under the car, his colleagues used a nearby resident’s carjack to lift it off him.
“We got the knock on the door from the officer frantically asking us for a carjack,” witness Ellice Dudley said.
“The officers came screaming around our backyard, into the shed, grabbed the carjack, they both ran down.”
The injured constable remains in a critical condition. It is understood he is in an induced coma with significant chest injuries.
