Bombshell election result to rock Europe
Hungarian voters have ousted long-serving Prime Minister Viktor Orban after 16 years in power, rejecting the authoritarian policies and global far-right movement that he embodied in favor of a pro-European challenger in a bombshell election result with global repercussions.

Peter Magyar, a former supporter of Viktor Orban, emerged victorious in the recent election by focusing his campaign on combating corruption and addressing everyday concerns like healthcare and public transportation. Magyar has committed to mending Hungary’s strained relationships with the European Union and NATO, which deteriorated during Orban’s tenure.

European leaders were quick to extend their congratulations to Magyar following his election win.

In this election, a significant number of ethnic Hungarians residing in neighboring countries were eligible to vote and have historically shown strong support for Orban’s party.

There have been numerous media reports, including an investigation by The Washington Post, suggesting that Russian secret services attempted to meddle in the election to benefit Orban. The prime minister, on the other hand, has accused Ukraine and Hungary’s EU allies of trying to influence the election outcome to establish a “pro-Ukraine” government.

Such accusations have fueled concerns among many EU leaders, who view Orban as a potential threat to the bloc’s stability.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, former President Donald Trump and his “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement were strong proponents of another term for Orban. Trump endorsed the Hungarian leader multiple times, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance recently visited Hungary for two days in a bid to bolster support for Orban.
