Marine conservationists strongly oppose culling, asserting there’s a lack of scientific proof to support its effectiveness.
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Pirotta commented, “but it’s crucial to pause and thoroughly examine the facts.”
“Being well-informed is vital, and we need to consider this issue thoughtfully, particularly regarding the term ‘culling,'” Pirotta continued.
“In my view, that term is often used without proper understanding,” Pirotta stated.
The marine specialist believes that enhancing public awareness around shark safety could significantly reduce attack incidents.
“Just as you’d check the UV index before heading to the beach, it’s important to ensure you’re swimming between the designated flags,” Pirotta explained.
“Perhaps we need to have some sort of environmental communication around [sharks] going forward.”
