William Goodge

A British endurance athlete has become the fastest person to run across Australia, making it from Perth to Sydney in just 35 days.

William Goodge set out from Cottesloe Beach on April 15 and kept an average distance of more than 100 kilometres per day.

He arrived in Sydney this afternoon, capping off the brisk 3800-kilometre run.

His run beat the previous record of 39 days and earns him the fastest foot crossing of Australia.

Goodge has been raising money for the Cancer Council of Australia in memory of his mother, who died in 2018.

At about 3 pm, hundreds of fellow runners gathered to join Goodge at Centennial Park in Sydney’s east, before the group set off towards their destination at Bondi Beach.

Several streets were swamped as the crowd made their way east.

Goodge arrived at Bondi at 4.07pm, where he was welcomed by a large crowd.
