The initial trailer for the western movie Rust has been unveiled over three years following the tragic death of the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, during production in the southwestern U.S.
Alec Baldwin, who not only stars in but also co-produced the film, faced charges of involuntary manslaughter due to the shooting incident in New Mexico, though these charges were dropped three days into the trial last year.
In this latest trailer, Baldwin appears as an outlaw fleeing a town on horseback, involved in classic wild west shootouts with his rivals. The storyline is set against the backdrop of 1880s Kansas, as noted in the video’s description.
While the movie was in production in 2021, Baldwin fired a prop gun during rehearsal for a scene that had contained a live round. The shot killed Hutchins and injured the movie’s director Joel Souza.
Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter and pleaded not guilty at the time. The case was dismissed after the judge overseeing the case ruled prosecutors did not properly turn over evidence to the defence.
The actor could have faced up to 18 months in prison.
Last year, the film’s armourer Hannah Gutierrez Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Rust will premiere in US cinemas and by video on demand in May.
