Football enthusiasts are always eager for their team to triumph, but one Manchester United supporter had an extra incentive for hoping his team would clinch a victory today.

Known online as The United Strand, Frank Ilett has become a notable figure among football fans for his unusual vow: he won’t cut his hair until Manchester United secures five consecutive wins.

Ilett made this commitment on October 5, 2024. However, since the Red Devils have struggled to fulfill their part of the bargain, it’s been almost 500 days since his last haircut.

The anticipation was palpable as Ilett even hosted a live stream to watch the game, hoping the streak might finally be broken.

Unfortunately, the streak remained unbroken as Manchester United only managed a 1-1 draw. Benjamin Sesko’s last-minute goal saved them from defeat after trailing for much of the second half at the London Stadium.

As a result, the countdown restarts, and Ilett’s wait for a haircut now stretches beyond 500 days, with the possibility of extending into two years, given the team’s inconsistent performance.

Ilett has said when the time finally comes to shave off his iconic hair do, he will donate the hair to charity.
