'Dozy Don': Trump Oval Office event images go viral
Images of US President Donald Trump appearing to close his eyes at an Oval Office announcement this week rocketed around social media this weekend, with the president’s opponents seizing on the footage to raise questions about his on-the-job performance.

On Thursday, former President Donald Trump addressed a gathering at the White House, announcing plans to reduce the costs of widely-used weight-loss medications. Speaking from behind the iconic Resolute Desk, he was joined by several other officials.

During parts of his address, Trump appeared to close his eyes occasionally and seemed to struggle to keep them open at times. He was also seen rubbing his eyes during certain moments.

Questions concerning Trump’s health have been a recurring topic since he became the oldest individual to assume the presidency. Last month, the 79-year-old shared that he underwent an MRI during a physical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, though he did not specify the reason for the test.

Earlier in the summer, the White House disclosed that Trump had been evaluated for leg swelling, resulting in a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency. This condition occurs when the valves within certain veins fail to function properly, leading to blood collecting or pooling in the veins.

It’s not uncommon for presidents to display signs of fatigue in public. Even younger leaders like former President Barack Obama were occasionally seen rubbing tired eyes during extended summits.

Trump has frequently criticized former President Joe Biden for his perceived lack of energy, dubbing him “Sleepy Joe” during the last election campaign. Biden, who holds the record as the oldest serving U.S. president, has also been observed closing his eyes during some public appearances.
