Iran vows 'historic lesson' for US after waves of missile attacks

The United States and Israel have presented differing justifications for recent military strikes on Iran, leading to some confusion over their true objectives.

During a press briefing, an Israeli military spokesperson clarified that the strikes, which were aimed at high-ranking figures within Iran, were not intended to instigate regime change. The spokesperson emphasized that the operations targeted those who were orchestrating attacks or engaging in activities detrimental to Israel’s security.

“Individuals involved in directing aggression, inciting violence, or plotting against Israel are considered valid targets if they are integral to Iran’s military operations,” the spokesperson stated. “While leadership roles in military aggression might place individuals within our sights, our primary focus remains on achieving military goals.”

In contrast, former President Donald Trump appeared to suggest that the U.S. had a different agenda, hinting that the removal of Ayatollah Khamenei’s regime was one of the motives behind America’s involvement. Trump encouraged the Iranian people to “take over” their government, indicating a possible interest in political change.

However, Trump earlier appeared to indicate the overthrow of Ayatollah Khamenei’s rule was at least partly behind America’s participation.

He called for Iranians to “take over” their government.

“Now is the time to seize control of your destiny, and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach. This is the moment for action,” Trump said in an eight-minute speech posted online tonight.
