The bizarre overnight heist was captured on CCTV.

Executive recruiter and career strategist Ineke McMahon posted a number of videos to Instagram cataloguing the theft.

Upon returning home from dropping her child off at school on Friday morning, she realized her tree was missing. A trail of dirt stretched up the street from where it once stood.

A white sedan drove past the home overnight, before turning around and coming back, parking next to the house next door, at about 4.10am.

A woman is then seen creeping into the camera frame, before she quickly uprooted the tree motion, bagged it, and took off.

McMahon had planted the tree five months ago and it was just starting to thrive and produce fruit.

She told Today reporter Mia Glover that she wanted the tree to be something the whole neighbourhood could enjoy – particularly for gin and tonics.
