A man is in critical condition, and two men are set to appear in court following an alleged assault near a Queensland gym, which police have described as “targeted and unprovoked”.

The 27-year-old had completed his workout and exited the gym on Bunker Road in Victoria Point, south of Brisbane, at 8pm on Monday when he was approached by a 22-year-old man.

Police said the younger man physically assaulted him and left him with life-threatening head injuries.

Police allege the attack was organised by another 22-year-old man known to the 27-year-old.

Officers searched a home in Redland Bay on Wednesday and arrested the alleged attacker.

The younger man has been charged with common assault, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, and for failing to provide police access to a digital device.

The 22-year-old is due to appear in court on Thursday.

Police said another 22-year-old man presented to his local police station yesterday.

He has been charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
