A man has been shot by police in Melbourne's north this afternoon.

Police say the shooting happened on Newlands Road in Coburg North at 4.40pm.

Emergency services are currently on scene.

The injured man is currently being treated by paramedics.

No one else has been injured.

Police say they are establishing the exact circumstances of the incident but say there is "absolutely nothing" to link this incident to the shooting in Fawkner on Saturday.
