A McDonald’s in the US has rolled out a radical new policy: All customers under the age of 21 are banned from entering.
The measure was enforced at a store in Fairfax County, Virginia after a spike in violence.
A notice at the entrance of the fast food chain states: “Due to ongoing incidents of student violence, this McDonald’s branch is temporarily restricting dine-in service to those 21 and older.”
“This decision was made to protect our staff, our guests, and our community.”
Those aged 21 years and older are required to ring the restaurant’s door bell to be let in.
Staff members have been positioned at the entrance to enforce the restriction and assist customers.
The restaurant’s drive-thru and mobile ordering options remain available to all ages.
