The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrested a person believed to be part of the Bloods street gang on Thursday after conducting a month-long investigation in MARION, Va. (WJHL).

A social media update indicated that Donte Durell McRay, residing at 124 Remington Lane in Marion, had been traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, to obtain narcotics for transport back to Smyth County for sale. The investigation also revealed McRay’s affiliation with the Bloods street gang, with connections in South Carolina as well.

The SCSO searched McRay’s 2009 white Dodge Caravan, which resulted in finding 246 grams of methamphetamine (just over half a pound).

McRay was charged with the following, the SCSO said:

  • Possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of methamphetamine
  • Transport into the Commonwealth with the intent to sell or distribute one ounce or more of a Schedule 1 or 2 controlled substance
  • Conspiracy to transport into the Commonwealth one ounce or more of a Schedule 1 or 2 controlled substance

He is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon, without bond, according to the SCSO.
