With the state’s latest Anzac Day holiday set to fall on Saturday, April 25, NSW Premier Chris Minns confirmed that the following Monday will also be recognised as a public holiday, causing additional staffing costs for small businesses statewide.

Next year brings a unique scheduling challenge as Anzac Day, observed on April 25th, coincides with a Sunday, prompting an additional public holiday. This adjustment raises concerns for small businesses, particularly those operating with slim profit margins.

According to McLean, the impact of this scheduling on small enterprises is significant. “Having an extra public holiday following a weekend, especially when the preceding Saturday is also a public holiday, can complicate staffing and operational planning,” she explained.

To manage these complexities, McLean advises businesses to take proactive measures. “It’s crucial to review rosters, confirm employee entitlements, and ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act,” she emphasized, highlighting the importance of preparation for employers.
