In the wake of this incident, there has been a surge of demands from Democratic senators for substantial reforms in the operations of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. These calls for change come at a time when a partial government shutdown looms, prompted by Democratic resistance to funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The proposed reforms include mandatory requirements for agents to obtain warrants before making arrests, the implementation of body cameras, and a prohibition on the use of masks. These measures aim to enhance transparency and accountability within the agency, amidst growing concerns over its practices.

A partial shutdown is imminent over Democratic opposition to DHS funding.

Among the demands are forcing agents to have warrants for arrests, legislating the use of body cameras and banning masks.

“This madness, this terror must stop,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said.
