Harman Preet Singh, a 22-year-old, recounted a distressing encounter with three men as he exited his gym in Corio last night.
According to Singh, the harassment had already started during his workout, and the trio were lying in wait for him outside once he finished.
Footage captures one of the men verbally attacking Singh, hurling the slur “Indian dog” along with other expletives. Singh claims that one of the men physically assaulted him with a headbutt.
“He got right up in my face, pulled back, and then slammed his head into my nose, causing it to bleed immediately,” Singh described.
“It’s something nobody should have to endure,” he added.
“Especially when you’re just going about your own business.”
“Anyone would be hurt. I’m still traumatised.”
The alleged offenders left in a grey sedan and Singh spent the night in hospital.
He said it was not the first time he had been the target of racial abuse, and it has started to have a big impact on him mentally.
“I try to keep myself strong, not care about such things, but it hurts,” he said.
“I don’t know if I’m going to go back to [the] gym or if I’m going to change my hours … I’m not going to feel safe after this.”
