An internal investigation has been initiated by the police into Dempsey’s death, with oversight provided by the Professional Standards Command. Additionally, the Cultural Reform Command has been dispatched to Tennant Creek.

In a statement from NT Police, Malley expressed complete confidence in both the detectives conducting the investigation and the independent oversight mechanisms involved.

“Every aspect of this incident, including the policies and procedures related to watch house care and the deceased’s medical history, will be part of a detailed brief of evidence submitted to the Coroner,” he stated.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends during this incredibly challenging time. I also wish to express gratitude to the Tennant Creek community for their continued support.”
