The bar and nightclub was open at the time of the shooting, which unfolded just before 2am.

A bustling Melbourne bar became the scene of a drive-by shooting, placing patrons in a perilous situation overnight.

The incident occurred at The Emerson, located in South Yarra, when a vehicle approached the Commercial Road establishment and an assailant unleashed several gunshots into the venue just before 2 a.m.

Fortunately, no one was harmed in the attack.

Details about the number of individuals in the car remain unclear, but the vehicle quickly left the area following the shooting.

The shooter is still at large, with authorities actively searching for the suspect.

A heavy police presence remains at the scene this morning where part of Commercial Road remains blocked off.

The nightclub was targeted by arsonists less than two weeks ago.
