Police granted extra powers ahead of Israeli President's Melbourne visit

Herzog is set to travel from Canberra to Melbourne tomorrow following his earlier visit to Sydney, where he met with survivors and mourners of the Bondi Terror Attack.

An estimated crowd of over 5000 demonstrators is anticipated to convene at Flinders Street Station at 5 p.m. tomorrow to protest the dignitary’s arrival.

“We are thoroughly prepared for both the visit and any protest activities this week, with ample police resources ready to respond swiftly to any incidents,” stated a spokesperson.

Earlier this week, approximately 5000 protesters gathered on the steps of Flinders Street Station on Monday.

“The protest on Monday in Melbourne was mostly peaceful, with the majority of participants behaving appropriately. We expect Thursday’s protests to follow a similar pattern,” said Hill.

“We uphold the right to protest, provided it is conducted lawfully and peacefully,” Hill added.

“Again, our number one aim is to ensure the safety of all involved and we will be working with all parties to make sure that’s the case.”

The president’s four-day visit to Australia has been veiled in controversy with several protests shutting down cities across the country.
