The 25-year-old NRL star and his brothers Jackson, 26, and Josh, 21, scuffled with police while celebrating a birthday.
Starling told 2GB’s Ben Fordham it had changed his family forever.
“I don’t think we will ever be the same after the events that happened that night,” Starling told Fordham.
“We might need to sell the family house we grew up in to keep paying these legal fees we have been trying our best to get our way through.”
Starling was cleared of assaulting police after six of the seven charges against him were dropped.
Starling was alleged to have reached for an officer’s gun during the tussle.
But the majority of those charges were withdrawn after a review of the CCTV found no evidence of the police claims.
NSW Police said in a statement this morning: “Investigators from Professional Standards Command are continuing to conduct inquiries in relation to the conduct of officers responding to an incident on the Central Coast on Saturday 5 December 2020.”

As police announced the probe, Starling’s mother Joanne told Ben Fordham on 2GB it had been a “tough few years” which almost ended her son’s playing career.
“With accusations of grabbing a gun, it’s a serious offence,” she said.
“The NRL were very close to standing him down.
“To have seven charges applied to you, and then when it was independently reviewed, to only have one minor offence stand, when I mentioned that to the investigation and detective they were quite shocked and had never heard of that before.”
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart told Fordham he had asked Starling what happened and believed what he told him.
“He’s done a great job to get through this and still be able to play football,” Stuart said.
“The whole club supported Tom.”
Starling said he is considering taking legal action against NSW Police.
