Queensland’s independent Member of Parliament, Jimmy Sullivan, has tragically passed away in Brisbane.
Authorities responded to a call at a Stafford residence around 10:15 p.m. last night, where they discovered a man’s body.
Police have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a report is being prepared for the coroner’s consideration.
Last May, Sullivan was expelled from the Labor caucus, resulting in his move to the crossbench due to personal issues.
This decision marked the culmination of a challenging six-month period for Sullivan, which began with police intervention at his home following an alleged domestic incident just a day after the state election.
Although the court dismissed the case, the LNP continued to highlight the incident in parliamentary discussions.
Sullivan accused the LNP of a lack of decency, as Labor MPs raised concerns privately.
“I thank my leadership team for giving the time and space to address my health issues,” Sullivan said at the time.
He explained in parliament that he was dealing with post-traumatic stress connected to the birth of his second daughter, and the death of his first daughter who was stillborn at 35 weeks.
This is a breaking story. More to come.
