Rebecca was newly single after her relationship ended – but what happened next left her so ashamed, she kept it a secret for 16 years.

The woman, from New Zealand, said she fell head over heels for another man shortly after her split from her boyfriend of two years.

‘After we broke up, I quickly fell for someone else, but I’ve kept who that person was secret for the past 16 years,’ Rebecca—whose voice was disguised to conceal her identity—shared with The Edge Breakfast during a segment called the Truth Booth.

The only person who knew about her secret 30-year age gap romance was her now-partner.

‘When I began dating (new partner), I laid everything out, including all my mistakes… It’s not exactly a mistake, but I suppose at the time… it was something I felt embarrassed about,’ she explained.

Radio hosts Ash London, Clinton Randell, and Dan Webby were eager with anticipation, urging her to reveal the identity of the man she’s kept hidden for 16 years.

‘So the person was my ex-boyfriend’s father,’ Rebecca said, as the radio trio gasped.

‘When my ex and I were together, I never thought of his dad in that way, but I think after we broke up, his dad started hanging out with me.

‘We’d end up in groups and at parties… and we just naturally started gravitating toward each other, realizing that we got along well and enjoyed ourselves together.’

Adding to the shock, the older man is a family friend so he’s always around in her life because he knows her parents.

‘He’s still a family friend and he’s one of my siblings’ bosses,’ she said.

Rebecca said she ended up in a secret relationship with her ex-boyfriend’s dad, who’s 30 years older than her.

‘We just had an agreement that it was just going to be what it was and no one really needed to know about it,’ she explained.

‘It was definitely more emotional than a sexual relationship.’

The challenge of keeping the relationship hidden from everyone—including his son, her ex-boyfriend—over 16 years was significant, but Rebecca mentioned it was ‘worth it’.

‘We had fun and remain good friends even now, so it’s almost as if nothing happened… like it did happen, but we’ve simply returned to being friends,’ she noted.

Ash chimed in, saying: ‘It’s like a beautiful dream and you’re not hurting anyone.

‘Nothing you did was illegal. Nothing was really immoral, consenting adults, it’s absolutely fine. You had a great time, but man, it’s a great story, Rebecca,’ Ash said.

Rebecca agreed, saying: ‘Yes, it was fun, definitely fun.’

The video has been viewed more than 30,000 times – with many filled with mixed emotions over her relationship bombshell.

‘Oh nah! Not the ex’s dad! Boyfriend to step son,’ one said, laughing.

‘Omg! I’m obsessed with this segment! Obsessed! So juicy,’ another shared.

‘The math ain’t making sense… 30 years and you got no house out of it?’ one joked.

While another pointed out: ‘NGL (not gonna lie), having these segments on before 9am is crazy! Kids in the car on the way to school and hearing this.’

Meanwhile, some took particular issue with her ex-boyfriend’s dad for crossing the line, with one slamming: ‘What the old man did was beyond disgusting.’

‘Worst father,’ another criticised.
