Donald Trump‘s top picks for governor have lost for the third week in a row, a strong indication the former president is losing his influence on the Republican party.

In recent years, Trump has sought to establish himself as the kingmaker of Republican politics, with politicians across the country desperately seeking his endorsement.

But his handpicked candidate to take on Georgia governor Brian Kemp has flopped hard in today’s primary.

Trump encouraged David Perdue to run against fellow Republican Kemp, after the latter refused to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

But Kemp is now on track to win every county in Georgia by a comfortable margin.

Another Georgia politician who drew Trump’s ire, Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger, is also on track to win his primary again.

A week ago, a Trump-endorsed candidate lost resoundingly in the Idaho gubernatorial primary.

The losses offer a strong indication that Trump no longer has the same pull among the Republican party faithful that he once had.

And angering Trump is not the death’s knell it once was among Republicans.

Yesterday, Trump’s Vice President, Mike Pence, enthusiastically endorsed Kemp in Georgia, thumbing his nose at his former boss.

A poll from Harris last week showed the 75-year-old Trump would win a presidential Republican primary in 2024, but with just 41 per cent of the vote.

That indicates conservative voters in the US are shopping around for somebody new.

Meanwhile, Trump’s former press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, won a dominant victory today in the Arkansas gubernatorial primary. Her father Mike previously held the same position.

In Texas, the grandson and nephew of former presidents, George P Bush, has been soundly defeated in the race for Texas attorney-general.

Bush had been hailed as the next generation of the Bush political dynasty, but Texas voters instead sided with a candidate who has been indicted for securities fraud.
