Insights into Nicole Kidman’s perspective on marriage have come to light through a recently uncovered interview.

The renowned Australian actress shared her poignant belief in lifelong marriage during an interview featured in the documentary “Nicole Kidman: Outback to Oscars,” now available on Tubi.

In a 1992 interview clip, filmed during the promotion of her movie “Far and Away” with then-husband Tom Cruise, Kidman is questioned by New Zealand journalist Paul Holmes about her views on marriage.

Holmes inquired, “You’ve said this marriage is the only one you’ll ever have. What makes you so sure?”

Kidman responded confidently, “I believe if you commit wholeheartedly and declare it as such, without hesitation, then it’s achievable.”

The documentary, which chronicles Kidman’s journey from her early career to stardom, also reveals her feelings of loneliness despite her 2003 Best Actress Oscar win for “The Hours.”

‘That culminated in winning an Oscar and that caused an epiphany which was actually, “This is not the answer,”‘ she said.

‘I was holding a gold statue and I was sitting in the Beverly Hills hotel and it was all extraordinary, and I was the loneliest I’d ever been.’

Cruise, 63, and Kidman, 58, met on the set of their film Days Of Thunder and after a whirlwind romance of less than a year, the pair tied the knot on December 24, 1990.

However, the union came to an abrupt end when Tom ‘walked out’ on Nicole after 12 years of marriage.

It was reported that Nicole had been left in ‘utter shock’ when Cruise filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

According to reports, the reason for him abandoning her was due to her refusal to join the Church of Scientology.

The couple’s two adopted children – Bella, 33 and Connor, 30 – are believed to have followed their father in joining the church and no longer have any contact with Nicole.

When news of their divorce was made public, one source told People magazine: ‘Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed. It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.’

Kidman recently shared how she’s faring after filing for divorce.

The Baby Girl actress interviewed Ariana Grande for Interview magazine, but the conversation started with the 32-year-old pop star asking the veteran actress, ‘How are you?’

Kidman seemed to hint at her emotional state. ‘I’m hanging in there,’ the silver screen siren answered.

Their marriage began to fall apart at the beginning of summer 2025. The split was reportedly a long-term development, stemming from months of quiet separation and diverging paths due to work commitments, according to Daily Mail sources.

The pair met at the G’Day LA gala ball in January 2005.

In a 2013 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Nicole confessed it wasn’t until four months after they met that Urban asked her out.

Kidman and Urban were married in June 2006 and were last seen together this June.

They share two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
